Assistant Professor Pharmacology

Job Summary: The Assistant Professor of Pharmacology is a faculty position responsible for teaching, research, and clinical pharmacology in the pharmacology department. The role includes delivering lectures, conducting laboratory sessions, mentoring students, and leading research initiatives. The Assistant Professor will be involved in developing curriculum, contributing to departmental development, and fostering an academic environment that supports student and faculty growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Teaching & Instruction:
    • Deliver engaging lectures and seminars to undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students on pharmacology topics such as pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, drug mechanisms, and clinical pharmacology.
    • Design and develop course curricula, instructional materials, and laboratory exercises to ensure comprehensive teaching and student engagement.
    • Supervise practical laboratory sessions, guiding students through experiments and ensuring proper understanding of pharmacological techniques and safety protocols.
    • Assess student performance through exams, assignments, laboratory evaluations, and projects, providing constructive feedback to support academic development.
    • Participate in course coordination, helping to plan the academic calendar, lecture schedules, and evaluation methods.
    • Provide academic counseling and mentorship to students, guiding them in research projects and career development.
  2. Research & Scholarly Activities:
    • Conduct original research in pharmacology, focusing on areas such as drug development, clinical pharmacology, pharmacogenomics, toxicology, or pharmacovigilance.
    • Lead research projects, design experiments, collect and analyze data, and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
    • Seek funding through research grants and industry collaborations to support pharmacological research initiatives.
    • Supervise and mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior researchers, providing guidance on experimental design, data analysis, and manuscript preparation.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams within and outside the institution to foster research innovation and interdisciplinary research efforts.
    • Contribute to writing research proposals, preparing grant applications, and securing research funding from governmental agencies, foundations, and private organizations.
  3. Academic and Administrative Responsibilities:
    • Contribute to the development and improvement of the department’s curriculum, including reviewing and updating course content, teaching strategies, and assessment methods.
    • Participate in departmental meetings and committees to assist with the academic planning, strategic direction, and overall administration of the department.
    • Support the department in organizing academic events, including seminars, workshops, and conferences that promote pharmacology education and research.
    • Assist with the administration of laboratory resources, equipment, and materials to ensure that teaching and research activities are well supported.
    • Participate in university-wide academic committees and activities, such as accreditation processes, curriculum reviews, and student recruitment efforts.
  4. Clinical Pharmacology and Patient Care:
    • Provide clinical pharmacology expertise, consulting on drug use, therapeutic management, drug interactions, and adverse drug reactions in clinical settings.
    • Collaborate with clinical departments and healthcare providers to optimize drug therapy and contribute to drug safety initiatives.
    • Participate in the development of drug formulary guidelines, therapeutic protocols, and evidence-based treatment recommendations.
    • Contribute to the academic integration of pharmacology into clinical education programs, teaching students the practical application of pharmacological principles in medical and healthcare practice.
  5. Supervision and Mentorship:
    • Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty members, providing guidance on their academic and research progress.
    • Assist students with research projects, including providing feedback, advising on research methodology, and helping with data analysis and manuscript writing.
    • Promote a collaborative and supportive learning environment, encouraging students to pursue academic excellence and scientific inquiry.
  6. Professional Development:
    • Engage in continuous professional development by attending workshops, seminars, and conferences to stay current with the latest trends in pharmacology and medical education.
    • Participate in professional organizations related to pharmacology and pharmacological education, attending annual meetings and networking with experts in the field.
    • Encourage the development of new teaching methodologies, technologies, and tools to improve student learning and engagement.
    • Actively contribute to the professional development of the pharmacology community, including giving guest lectures, attending training programs, and sharing research outcomes.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education:
    • Ph.D. in Pharmacology or a related field (M.D. with a specialization in pharmacology or clinical pharmacology is also considered).
    • Postdoctoral experience in pharmacology, drug development, or clinical pharmacology is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • At least 2-3 years of teaching experience at the university level in pharmacology or a related field.
