Assistant Professor Microbiology

Job Summary:

The Assistant Professor of Microbiology is responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, assisting in clinical laboratory operations, participating in research, and contributing to the academic development of the department. This role is ideal for early-career academicians focused on building teaching and research credentials.


Key Responsibilities:

Academic Responsibilities:

  • Teach microbiology to undergraduate students (MBBS, BDS, Nursing, Allied Health) and postgraduate students (MD Microbiology, if applicable).
  • Conduct lectures, practical sessions, tutorials, and internal assessments.
  • Prepare lesson plans, teaching materials, and evaluation tools in accordance with the curriculum.
  • Participate in student evaluation, paper setting, and viva voce.
  • Support academic events like journal clubs, seminars, and workshops.

Clinical & Laboratory Support:

  • Assist in the operation of the diagnostic microbiology laboratory including bacteriology, serology, virology, parasitology, mycology, and molecular biology.
  • Ensure quality assurance, biosafety, and adherence to standard protocols in the laboratory.
  • Participate in hospital infection control programs, antimicrobial stewardship, and outbreak response (as required).

Research & Publications:

  • Initiate or assist with departmental research projects.
  • Guide or co-guide student research and thesis work under the supervision of senior faculty.
  • Present papers in conferences and contribute to publications in indexed journals.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Assist in maintaining departmental records, inventories, and laboratory equipment.
  • Support documentation and compliance activities for NMC, NABL, NAAC, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, academic audits, and institutional committees when assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Educational: MBBS with MD in Microbiology from a recognized institution.
  • Experience: Fresh MD graduates or those with up to 4 years of teaching/lab experience post-MD may apply (as per NMC eligibility norms).
  • Registration: Must be registered with the National Medical Commission (NMC)/Medical Council of India and relevant State Medical Council.
