Position Summary:
The Assistant Professor in General Surgery is responsible for teaching, clinical care, research, and administrative duties within the department. The role involves supervising undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, providing high-quality surgical services, mentoring students and junior staff, and participating in academic development and institutional growth. The position plays a key role in shaping the next generation of surgeons and contributing to advancements in surgical care and education.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Academic Duties:
- Deliver lectures, tutorials, operative demonstrations, and bedside clinics for MBBS and MS/DNB students.
- Guide and supervise postgraduate residents in clinical training, thesis work, and surgical skill development.
- Contribute to curriculum development and exam preparation (internal and university-level).
- Participate in departmental academic activities like seminars, journal clubs, mortality reviews, and CME programs.
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive surgical care in outpatient, inpatient, operation theatre, and emergency settings.
- Perform and supervise major and minor surgical procedures with adherence to safety protocols.
- Participate in the on-call rotation for emergency and trauma services.
- Ensure quality care and documentation in accordance with institutional and medico-legal standards.
Research and Publications:
- Undertake clinical or translational research in general surgery or subspecialties.
- Publish articles in peer-reviewed journals and present research at national/international conferences.
- Guide undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Participate in departmental planning, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Serve on academic or hospital committees as assigned.
- Assist in organizing academic events, workshops, and surgical skill labs.
Qualifications:
- Educational:
- MBBS with MS/DNB in General Surgery from a recognized medical college/university.
- Experience:
- As per regulatory body norms (e.g., National Medical Commission – NMC: typically 1 year of senior residency in a recognized institution).
- Registration:
- Valid registration with State or National Medical Council.
