Assistant Professor General Surgery

Position Summary:

The Assistant Professor of General Surgery plays a key role in teaching, clinical care, and academic development within the Department of Surgery. The position involves educating undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, providing supervised clinical services, and participating in scholarly and research activities. The role is designed for early-career academic surgeons seeking to build a career in academic medicine and surgical education.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Teaching and Academic Duties

  • Deliver lectures, seminars, and bedside teaching to undergraduate (MBBS) students.
  • Supervise and train surgical residents and interns during clinical rotations.
  • Prepare teaching materials, case studies, and participate in curriculum development.
  • Assist in the assessment and evaluation of student performance.

2. Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality patient care in general surgery under the guidance of senior faculty.
  • Perform and assist in surgical procedures in the operating room.
  • Conduct ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and emergency surgical care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and follow-up.

3. Research and Scholarly Activity

  • Participate in departmental or institutional research projects.
  • Contribute to publications, academic papers, and conference presentations.
  • Guide undergraduate and postgraduate students in research work and dissertations.
  • Maintain continuous learning through CME and surgical education programs.

4. Administrative and Institutional Responsibilities

  • Support departmental planning, audits, and accreditation-related documentation.
  • Serve on academic and clinical committees as assigned.
  • Participate in faculty development workshops and institutional activities.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and institutional policies in teaching and clinical care.

Qualifications:

  • Essential:
    • MBBS with a postgraduate qualification in General Surgery (MS, DNB, or equivalent).
    • Registered with the relevant national or state medical council.
    • Minimum 1–3 years of clinical/surgical experience post-specialization (or as per local regulatory norms).
  • Desirable:
    • Prior teaching or academic experience in a medical college or teaching hospital.
    • Participation in surgical research or academic publications.
