Assistant Professor General Medicine

Position Summary:

The Assistant Professor in General Medicine is a core academic and clinical faculty position responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, clinical care, and contributing to research in internal medicine. The role involves active participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs, patient care services, and academic development of the department. The candidate is expected to mentor junior faculty, residents, and students while upholding the institution’s commitment to excellence in education and healthcare delivery.


Key Responsibilities:

Teaching & Academic Duties:

  • Conduct lectures, tutorials, bedside clinics, and seminars for MBBS and MD (General Medicine) students.
  • Participate in curriculum development, examination setting, paper evaluation, and internal assessments.
  • Guide and supervise postgraduate thesis and research work.
  • Organize and participate in academic activities such as CME programs, journal clubs, and case discussions.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert consultation and care for patients in outpatient, inpatient, ICU, and emergency settings.
  • Supervise junior faculty, residents, and interns in patient care and procedural skills.
  • Manage acute and chronic medical conditions using evidence-based clinical practices.
  • Participate in clinical audits and ensure high standards of care and patient safety.

Research & Scholarly Activities:

  • Initiate and conduct research projects in general/internal medicine and related subspecialties.
  • Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at national/international conferences.
  • Apply for research grants and collaborate with other departments or institutions.
  • Mentor students and residents in research methodology and scientific writing.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Participate in departmental meetings, academic planning, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in organizing academic events, workshops, and interdepartmental programs.
  • Contribute to institutional committees, accreditation processes, and regulatory compliance (e.g., NMC norms).

Qualifications:

  • Educational:
    • MBBS with MD/DNB in General Medicine from a recognized institution
  • Experience:
    • As per regulatory norms (e.g., minimum 1 year of senior residency or equivalent, as per NMC)
  • Registration:
    • Valid medical registration with State or National Medical Council (as per country norms)
