Job Summary: The Assistant Professor of General Medicine is a full-time academic position focused on delivering high-quality medical education, conducting clinical research, and providing patient care. This role involves teaching medical students, residents, and junior faculty, engaging in direct patient care, and contributing to the academic and clinical research initiatives of the Department of General Medicine. The Assistant Professor will help develop educational programs, mentor students, and participate in the advancement of medical knowledge through research in clinical medicine.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching & Education:
- Deliver lectures, seminars, and practical sessions for medical students, interns, and residents, focusing on the core concepts of general medicine, diagnosis, treatment strategies, and patient management.
- Supervise and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students in clinical settings, ensuring they gain hands-on experience in diagnosing and managing common and complex medical conditions.
- Participate in academic activities such as case discussions, grand rounds, and tutorials to promote learning in general medicine.
- Develop and update curriculum content, ensuring alignment with the latest medical research, clinical practices, and evidence-based medicine.
- Design and implement assessments to evaluate the academic progress of students and residents.
- Foster an interactive and supportive learning environment, encouraging student participation, critical thinking, and evidence-based practice.
- Clinical Responsibilities:
- Provide direct medical care to patients in outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, and emergency services, including the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of medical conditions.
- Lead and participate in daily patient rounds, discussing case management, treatment plans, and progress with residents and medical students.
- Coordinate patient care in collaboration with other healthcare providers, including specialists, nurses, and allied health professionals.
- Oversee the management of chronic diseases (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases) and acute medical conditions (e.g., respiratory failure, infections, neurological emergencies).
- Participate in on-call rotations, responding to medical emergencies, managing critical cases, and ensuring the continuity of patient care.
- Research & Scholarly Activities:
- Conduct clinical research in general medicine, focusing on improving patient care, developing new treatment protocols, or exploring emerging medical trends.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international medical conferences.
- Collaborate with other faculty members and researchers on research projects, providing mentorship to junior researchers and students.
- Seek external funding through research grants and partnerships to support clinical research activities.
- Encourage a culture of research within the department by guiding students and junior faculty in their research endeavors.
- Patient Care & Consultation:
- Provide comprehensive care for patients with a wide variety of medical conditions, from routine consultations to more complex and critical care cases.
- Develop and execute individualized treatment plans, monitoring patient progress and adjusting therapies as needed.
- Counsel patients and their families on medical conditions, treatment options, and preventive care measures, ensuring clear communication and compassionate care.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings to discuss patient cases, ensuring comprehensive care and optimal outcomes.
- Faculty & Academic Development:
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior faculty members, residents, and medical students, supporting their professional growth and development in general medicine.
- Assist in organizing workshops, conferences, and seminars on current topics in general medicine, fostering a learning community within the institution.
- Participate in faculty development programs to stay current with educational best practices, clinical developments, and new research in general medicine.
- Serve on academic committees and contribute to the development of institutional policies related to medical education and patient care.
- Administrative Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all patients under care, ensuring compliance with institutional and legal requirements.
- Assist with the preparation of departmental reports, quality assurance activities, and accreditation processes for medical education programs.
- Contribute to the administration of the department through meetings, departmental reviews, and participation in institutional decision-making processes.
- Community Engagement & Health Promotion:
- Participate in outreach programs that promote health education, disease prevention, and wellness in the community.
- Lead or participate in health awareness campaigns, providing information on preventive healthcare and managing chronic diseases.
- Professional Development:
- Keep abreast of the latest advancements in general medicine, continuing medical education (CME), and current medical literature.
- Attend national and international conferences and workshops, contributing to the professional development of faculty and students.
- Engage in self-directed learning, improving clinical skills and expanding knowledge of emerging trends and research in general medicine.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education:
- M.B.B.S. or equivalent medical degree.
- Postgraduate qualifications in General Medicine (MD, DNB, or equivalent).
- Additional certifications or training in areas of special interest (e.g., cardiology, respiratory medicine, infectious diseases) may be an advantage.
- Experience:
- At least 3-5 years of clinical experience in General Medicine, including experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Qualification – MBBS, MS/MD
