Position Summary:
The Assistant Professor in Forensic Medicine is an academic and clinical faculty position responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, conducting medico-legal work, and contributing to academic research in forensic medicine and toxicology. The role involves theoretical instruction, practical training (including autopsy and medico-legal procedures), and administrative duties, aligned with institutional and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Academic Duties:
- Deliver lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology for MBBS and allied health science students.
- Supervise and train students in autopsy demonstrations, medico-legal report writing, and court evidence procedures.
- Prepare question papers, evaluate answer scripts, and conduct internal and university examinations.
- Participate in academic activities such as seminars, workshops, CME programs, and interdisciplinary teaching.
Clinical and Medico-Legal Responsibilities:
- Conduct and supervise medico-legal autopsies in coordination with law enforcement authorities.
- Handle medico-legal cases such as age estimation, injury assessment, sexual assault examination, and toxicology cases.
- Provide expert opinions for courts and testify as a medical expert when summoned.
- Ensure maintenance of autopsy records, evidence, and medico-legal documentation.
Research and Scholarly Activities:
- Undertake research in forensic pathology, toxicology, medical ethics, or related fields.
- Publish findings in indexed medical journals and present at scientific forums.
- Guide undergraduate student research and assist in collaborative institutional studies.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Maintain departmental records, teaching schedules, and cadaver preservation protocols.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines (e.g., NMC, institutional SOPs).
- Participate in departmental and institutional committees and quality assurance programs.
Qualifications:
- Educational:
- MBBS with MD (Forensic Medicine) or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Experience:
- As per regulatory body norms (e.g., NMC: typically 1 year of senior residency in Forensic Medicine).
- Registration:
- Valid registration with State or National Medical Council.
Key Skills and Competencies:
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of forensic pathology, toxicology, and medical jurisprudence
- Competence in conducting autopsies and preparing medico-legal reports
- Excellent teaching and mentoring abilities
- Good communication and court deposition skills
- Knowledge of ethical and legal responsibilities in forensic practice
