Assistant Professor Forensic Medicine

Job Summary:

The Assistant Professor of Forensic Medicine is responsible for teaching, training, and mentoring medical students in forensic medicine and toxicology, contributing to medico-legal services, and engaging in academic research. The role combines academic instruction with practical application, including post-mortem examinations, medico-legal casework, and toxicological assessments, under appropriate supervision and regulatory compliance.


Key Responsibilities:

Academic & Teaching Duties:

  • Deliver lectures, practical classes, and tutorials in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology to undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MD) students.
  • Prepare and update course materials, manuals, and question papers as per curriculum guidelines.
  • Supervise student assessments, internal exams, and university examinations.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to students in academic projects or case presentations.

Clinical & Medico-Legal Responsibilities:

  • Participate in conducting medico-legal post-mortems and forensic examinations under institutional or legal authority.
  • Assist in preparing medico-legal reports and opinions for law enforcement or judicial authorities.
  • Collaborate with police, judiciary, and other medico-legal agencies as required.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and comply with legal and ethical standards in medico-legal work.

Research & Scholarly Activity:

  • Initiate or participate in research projects related to forensic medicine, toxicology, or medico-legal systems.
  • Publish research findings in indexed journals and present at relevant academic or forensic conferences.
  • Support postgraduate students in research and thesis work.

Administrative Duties:

  • Participate in departmental and institutional meetings, curriculum development, and quality assurance processes.
  • Assist in organizing seminars, workshops, and CME programs related to forensic medicine.
  • Contribute to maintaining departmental records, logbooks, and academic audit requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Essential:
    • MBBS degree from a recognized university/institution.
    • MD in Forensic Medicine / Forensic Medicine & Toxicology from an MCI/NMC-recognized institution (or equivalent depending on country).
    • Registration with relevant medical council (e.g., NMC/MCI in India or local licensing authority).
  • Desirable:
    • Previous teaching or academic experience as Tutor/Resident.
    • Publications in peer-reviewed medical/forensic journals.
