Job Summary:
The Assistant Professor in Forensic Medicine is responsible for teaching forensic medicine to undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, conducting research in forensic science, and contributing to the development and enhancement of the forensic medicine curriculum. This role involves providing expertise in the legal and medical aspects of forensic cases, as well as supervising students in clinical and laboratory settings related to forensic investigations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching & Education:
- Deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials in forensic medicine, covering topics such as medico-legal aspects, forensic pathology, toxicology, injury analysis, and forensic psychiatry.
- Supervise practical and clinical sessions in forensic medicine, including the examination of dead bodies, autopsy procedures, and the collection of forensic evidence.
- Develop and update teaching materials, including lecture notes, presentations, and case studies.
- Conduct assessments, including written exams, practical exams, and oral assessments, to evaluate students’ understanding of forensic medical topics.
- Guide students in case-based learning, allowing them to apply forensic medicine knowledge to real-life situations.
- Clinical and Forensic Case Management:
- Provide clinical and medico-legal support in forensic investigations, including performing post-mortem examinations, determining the cause of death, and collecting evidence in cases of suspected homicide, suicide, or accidental death.
- Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, courts, and legal professionals to assist with forensic investigations.
- Participate in the preparation of forensic reports, which may be used as evidence in legal proceedings.
- Provide expert testimony in courts, assisting in legal cases related to forensic medicine and pathology.
- Research:
- Conduct independent and collaborative research in forensic medicine, focusing on areas such as forensic pathology, toxicology, injury analysis, or legal aspects of medical practice.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed forensic and medical journals and present findings at national and international conferences.
- Seek research funding opportunities and manage research projects.
- Supervise postgraduate students, research fellows, and residents in forensic medicine research and case studies.
- Curriculum Development:
- Contribute to the development, review, and continuous improvement of the forensic medicine curriculum to ensure it is relevant and up-to-date.
- Work with other medical and law faculties to integrate forensic medicine with clinical and legal education.
- Innovate teaching methods by incorporating digital tools, simulations, and case-based learning into the curriculum.
- Professional Development:
- Stay updated on the latest advances in forensic medicine, medico-legal systems, and forensic research through continuous professional education.
- Attend workshops, conferences, and seminars to maintain professional knowledge and skills.
- Participate in interdepartmental collaborations to share knowledge and contribute to the growth of forensic medicine in medical and legal communities.
- Administrative Duties:
- Participate in departmental meetings, planning, and academic initiatives.
- Assist in the management and coordination of departmental activities, including the organization of conferences, workshops, and community outreach programs.
- Maintain accurate records related to student progress, attendance, and assessments.
- Ensure compliance with ethical and legal standards in forensic medicine practice and teaching.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- MBBS + MS/MD in Forensic Medicine.
