Job Summary: The Assistant Professor of Community Medicine is a full-time academic and clinical position aimed at providing high-quality education in community medicine, contributing to public health research, and actively participating in community health programs. This position involves teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, conducting research in community health, contributing to the development of public health initiatives, and offering expertise in epidemiology, disease prevention, and health promotion. The Assistant Professor will work closely with other faculty members, public health experts, and government agencies to improve community health outcomes and to prepare students for a career in public health.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching & Education:
- Deliver lectures, seminars, and practical sessions on topics related to community medicine, including epidemiology, health policy, environmental health, communicable and non-communicable diseases, and public health interventions.
- Develop and update curriculum content for undergraduate and postgraduate courses to ensure alignment with the latest public health knowledge and best practices.
- Supervise and mentor medical students, residents, and postgraduate students, guiding them through academic coursework, fieldwork, and research projects.
- Provide academic support and career guidance to students, helping them develop the skills needed for careers in community medicine, public health, and healthcare leadership.
- Evaluate student performance through assignments, exams, practical assessments, and research projects, providing constructive feedback to encourage academic success.
- Public Health Program Development & Implementation:
- Actively participate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of community health programs focused on disease prevention, health promotion, and the improvement of public health infrastructure.
- Contribute to the development and execution of public health campaigns and interventions aimed at addressing prevalent health issues in the community, such as vaccination programs, maternal and child health, sanitation, and chronic disease management.
- Work closely with local health authorities, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to address health disparities and improve health services in underserved populations.
- Epidemiological Research & Data Analysis:
- Conduct independent and collaborative research in community medicine, with a focus on epidemiology, disease burden, health outcomes, and public health policy.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret health data to identify patterns, risk factors, and emerging health threats in communities.
- Contribute to the preparation of research papers, grant proposals, and reports, aiming to publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at professional conferences.
- Supervise and guide students and junior researchers in research activities, including data collection, analysis, and the preparation of research papers.
- Clinical & Community Service:
- Participate in providing healthcare services to communities through field visits, health camps, and clinics focused on preventive care, health education, and the management of common diseases.
- Contribute to surveillance activities and assist in identifying and managing outbreaks of infectious diseases, environmental health hazards, and other public health threats in the community.
- Engage with local communities to promote awareness and participation in health programs and encourage behavior change for better health outcomes.
- Health Policy & Advocacy:
- Contribute to the development and evaluation of public health policies and strategies at the local, regional, and national levels.
- Advocate for improved public health infrastructure, healthcare access, and the implementation of evidence-based health interventions.
- Collaborate with government agencies and other stakeholders to influence public health policy and ensure the integration of community medicine principles in health systems.
- Community Outreach & Health Promotion:
- Lead or assist in organizing health education and awareness programs targeting various community groups, including schools, workplaces, and rural populations.
- Develop health promotion materials, such as pamphlets, posters, and digital content, focusing on public health issues like sanitation, nutrition, mental health, and chronic disease prevention.
- Collaborate with community leaders and organizations to deliver health education initiatives that address local health concerns and improve knowledge about disease prevention and health management.
- Administrative & Academic Contributions:
- Assist in the administration and management of the community medicine department, including participating in academic meetings, departmental committees, and other institutional activities.
- Help with the preparation of departmental reports, annual assessments, and accreditation documentation for academic programs in community medicine.
- Support the organization of departmental workshops, conferences, and symposia aimed at advancing knowledge and promoting best practices in public health.
- Professional Development & Continuing Education:
- Stay up-to-date with the latest research, developments, and best practices in community medicine, public health, and epidemiology.
- Participate in continuing medical education (CME), workshops, and national or international conferences to enhance professional skills and contribute to the wider public health community.
- Contribute to the professional development of junior faculty, students, and staff through mentoring, peer review, and knowledge-sharing activities.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education:
- M.B.B.S. or equivalent medical degree.
- Master’s degree in Community Medicine, Public Health (MPH), or a related field is preferred.
- Additional qualifications, certifications, or training in epidemiology, health policy, or public health are desirable.
- Experience:
- At least 2-3 years of teaching and clinical experience in community medicine, public health, or related fields.
