Job Summary:
The Assistant Professor in Biochemistry is responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, conducting research in biochemistry, and contributing to the development of the biochemistry curriculum. This position requires a strong background in biochemistry, a passion for teaching, and the ability to mentor students in their academic and research endeavors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching & Education:
- Deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials in biochemistry, covering topics such as molecular biology, metabolic pathways, enzymology, clinical biochemistry, and molecular genetics.
- Supervise laboratory sessions, practical classes, and demonstrations, guiding students in experimental techniques and helping them understand the biochemical basis of various medical conditions.
- Develop and update teaching materials, including lectures, presentations, and handouts.
- Evaluate students’ progress through assignments, quizzes, exams, and practical assessments.
- Assist in the preparation and coordination of the biochemistry curriculum for undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
- Provide academic counseling and mentorship to students, helping them apply biochemistry concepts to clinical practice.
- Research:
- Conduct independent and collaborative research in biochemistry, focusing on areas such as molecular mechanisms, metabolic disorders, enzymatic function, or clinical biochemistry.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at academic conferences.
- Seek external research funding and manage research projects.
- Supervise graduate students and research fellows, guiding them in their research activities and helping them develop their research skills.
- Curriculum Development:
- Contribute to the development, review, and enhancement of the biochemistry curriculum to ensure it aligns with contemporary medical education standards.
- Collaborate with other departments to integrate biochemistry knowledge into clinical and other science courses.
- Incorporate innovative teaching methods, such as digital tools, case-based learning, and flipped classrooms, into the curriculum.
- Administrative Duties:
- Participate in departmental meetings, planning, and strategic initiatives.
- Assist in organizing departmental events, workshops, and seminars related to biochemistry and medical education.
- Manage student records, including attendance, grades, and performance evaluations.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, ensure safety standards are followed, and manage departmental resources effectively.
- Professional Development:
- Stay updated with the latest advances in biochemistry, medical education, and research through professional development activities such as workshops, conferences, and courses.
- Participate in national and international research collaborations, promoting the department’s visibility and contributions to biochemistry and medical sciences.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- MBBS + MS/MD in Biochemistry or a related field from a recognized institution.
- A postdoctoral experience or teaching experience in biochemistry is preferred.
